About Torrington Fence Builders
A locally owned fencing contractor serving Torrington and Northwest Connecticut — built on straight talk and work that holds up through hard winters, frost heave, and storm season.
Who We Are
Torrington Fence Builders is a locally operated fencing contractor serving residential, agricultural, and commercial customers throughout Torrington and the broader Litchfield County market. We're based in the Litchfield Hills and cover the full sweep of Northwest Connecticut — from the historic streets of Litchfield Green and the East End neighborhoods of Torrington, through the lake homes around Bantam and Highland Lake, out to the working farms and equestrian properties across Goshen, Cornwall, and the Barkhamsted hills.
Our work covers the full range of fence types — cedar privacy and pressure-treated pine, wrought iron and aluminum ornamental, vinyl and chain-link, post-and-board and no-climb horse fence, code-compliant pool fencing, plus commercial perimeter systems. Repair work on storm-damaged or aging fences gets the same care as new installs when full replacement isn't necessary. Every job is treated with the same attention to detail regardless of whether it's a single backyard run or a multi-acre commercial perimeter.
Northwest Connecticut creates specific demands for outdoor structures: a frost line that runs four feet deep, hard freeze-thaw cycles that heave shallow posts, heavy snow loads, ice storms, salt and runoff from mountain roads, and historic district commissions in towns like Litchfield with strict standards on every visible run of fence. Our installation methods account for all of it — proper post depth, oversized footings below frost, UV-stable materials, hot-dip galvanized hardware, and construction techniques chosen to perform in this environment for the long term.
How We Work
Honest Assessments
We tell you what the fence actually needs — not what generates the highest invoice. If a section repair will hold up as well as a full replacement, we'll say so instead of pushing the bigger job.
Quality Materials
Western red cedar, properly pressure-treated pine, powder-coated iron and aluminum, UV-stabilized vinyl, and hot-dip galvanized hardware sized for the job — not the cheapest option a supplier sends out.
Clean Workmanship
Posts plumb, panels flush, gates that swing level. The details that determine how long a fence really lasts through Connecticut winters and freeze-thaw cycles don't get skipped on our jobs.
Direct Communication
You deal with the same people from estimate to completion. If something changes mid-project — ledge rock, an old footing, a buried line — you hear about it before we proceed, not on the final invoice.

What Our Clients Say
Cedar board-on-board around the backyard off East Main Street. Crew worked through a stretch of late October rain without slowing down and set every post in concrete deep enough to clear our frost line. Two winters in and nothing has shifted — gates still latch clean.
Three-rail post-and-board around the front pasture off Route 63. Cedar posts pressure-treated for ground contact, no-climb mesh on the inside, and corners braced the way they should be. The horses haven't tested a weak spot yet and the line stayed true through last winter's heavy snow load.
Powder-coated aluminum pool fence around the back patio off North Street. They pulled the permit, met current Connecticut barrier code on the first inspection, and the self-closing gate works exactly the way it's supposed to. Clean install, no callbacks.
A nor'easter snapped about thirty feet of vinyl behind the house off Spencer Street. They reset the leaning posts in proper footings below frost depth instead of just patching what was there, and matched the panel color so well you can't tell where the new run starts.
